You get on a road and it means two things —
you are leaving one
place, going to another
and there are others on the road.
And you’ve seen two street signs not always seen:
one named desire,
one named paradise.
You see one of them, turn, no signal, no
sign to those behind or ahead. You go
where you’ve not been before,
realize you’ve marked
nothing for your return and do not know
how to turn around.
Figure to drive through.
And drive and drive and drive and see a street
named regret and feel
you must be closer
to the road you turned off of, not certain
you want to make that
turn and drive by it.
“What road am I on, paradise or desire?”
