A Meditation

I do not know the formula for calculating
the percentage of bird flights high and low.
It’s comforting to see them fly so near
the ground and still be air-bound.  That, too,
is a type of soaring.  I could see flights like
that for me where I am just above the ground
flying but still in sight, still able to quickly
land, still the possibility to fly out of sight
but no desire to do so.  Then the landing
in a tree, the songs that follow.
